[Financial News] Mercedes-Benz Korea began taking preorders in Korea on the 28th for the all-new electric Mercedes-Benz GLB. Following the all-new electric Mercedes-Benz CLA, launched in Korea on the 19th, it is the second model based on the next-generation modular architecture, MMA.
The all-electric GLB 250+ Electric will be the first model brought to Korea this year. Customer deliveries are scheduled to begin in late November. It is priced at 69.9 million won (based on a 5% individual consumption tax).
The exterior is said to create an SUV-like silhouette with its vertical front end, steeply upright windshield and short overhangs. It features an illuminated panel incorporating 94 LED stars and high-performance LED headlamps, while flush door handles give the sides a sleek finish.
The wheelbase is 2,889 mm, 60 mm longer than that of the previous GLB. Rear legroom has increased by up to 68 mm, and the redesigned seats adjust the hip-joint angle by 9 degrees when seated and provide greater thigh support. The standard panoramic roof also increases headroom compared with the EQB by up to 35 mm in the front and 64 mm in the rear. The vehicle has a 127-liter frunk (front trunk) and a rear trunk with a capacity of up to 540 liters. Folding the rear seats expands rear cargo space to as much as 1,715 liters.
It is also equipped with MB.OS, Mercedes-Benz’s in-house-developed vehicle operating system. The MBUX Superscreen comprises a 10.25-inch driver display and 14-inch center and front-passenger displays, and its functions can be continually updated over the air (OTA). It also features a selfie and video camera, a head-up display and a wireless charging system for the front seats.
The fourth-generation MBUX features a generative AI-powered MBUX Virtual Assistant. It uses ChatGPT, Microsoft Bing, Google Maps and other services to let drivers control the vehicle through conversation. The TMAP AUTO navigation system has been optimized for Korean customers, and users can also access 28 broadcast channels on LiveTV+, co-developed with LG Uplus Corp., as well as local apps including Genie Music and Millie's Library.
The vehicle also features MB.DRIVE Assist, a driver-assistance system. Cameras, radar and ultrasonic sensors are integrated with control units based on MB.OS. Combining DISTRONIC and Steering Assist, it provides SAE Level 2 driving assistance and helps change lanes when the turn signal is activated on highways and expressways. MB.DRIVE Parking Assist 360° is also standard; in narrow roads or dead-end spaces, it can remember the vehicle’s most recent route and reverse with automatic steering.
The GLB 250+ Electric is equipped with a lithium-ion battery with 85 kWh of usable energy capacity. Its WLTP range is up to 631 km on a single charge. Based on an 800-volt electric architecture, it supports DC fast charging at up to 320 kW, and a 10-minute charge can add up to 260 km of WLTP range.
Starting with the 2026 model year, Mercedes-Benz Korea Ltd. will provide customers who purchase an all-electric vehicle with the PLUS plan for its MB.CHARGE Public integrated charging service free of charge for up to one year. The official app lets users search for nearby charging stations, check real-time availability and view charging history.
A Mercedes-Benz Korea Ltd. representative said, “We are preparing to launch the Plug & Charge service in Korea in the first quarter of next year,” adding, “Once introduced, simply connecting the cable at a compatible vehicle and charger will automatically take care of everything from vehicle authentication to charging and payment.”
