[Financial News] The cumulative number of enrollees at Kakaopay Insurance Corp. has surpassed 10 million four years after its launch. Repeat sign-ups by existing users played a major role.
According to Kakaopay Insurance Corp. on the 28th, cumulative enrollment surpassed 10 million as of this month. That means it added 4 million in the year since reaching 6 million in its third year after launch.
Alongside the influx of new users, repeat use by existing users was also a key factor. In fact, more than half of all users (52%) had signed up at least twice. The repeat sign-up rate for overseas travel insurance was around 70%. About 50% of users had signed up three or more times, and some had signed up as many as 82 times.
Kakaopay Insurance Corp. has focused on letting users choose the coverage they need and sign up without complicated procedures. Its overseas travel insurance is a prime example: the company has improved its coverage, sign-up process, and UI/UX more than 160 times in response to inconveniences and demand identified during use.
The company has also minimized inconvenience during claims and payouts. For mobile phone insurance, 55% of all claims were paid “instantly” within 24 hours, while some claims under overseas travel insurance were paid in as little as one second.
The company has also created opportunities for users to experience the benefits of insurance even if they have not filed a claim. Through the “Safe Return Home Bonus (No-Accident Refund)” offered with its overseas travel insurance, it returns part of the premium to users who return from a trip without an accident. To date, 4 million people have received a total of 4.7 billion won in refunds.
Kakaopay Insurance Corp. has diversified its products beyond overseas travel and mobile phone insurance to include driver, infant and school-age child, health, and pet insurance. Its pet insurance, launched this past March, surpassed 10,000 cumulative policies in just four months. It also ranked first in the pet insurance category at the “2026 Brand of the Year Awards.”
The company is also growing. Insurance revenue in the first half of this year rose 83% from the same period last year, while monthly premium revenue increased 147%.
Jang Young-geun, CEO of Kakaopay Insurance Corp., said, “This is the result of users choosing Kakaopay Insurance Corp.’s products and services and coming back to them,” adding, “We will continue to develop them so that users can access insurance more easily and conveniently and experience its value when they need it.”
