[Financial News] LG Uplus Corp. and Ecolab Korea will jointly develop liquid-cooling operating standards for next-generation artificial intelligence data centers (AIDCs). The plan is to strengthen the stability of AI infrastructure by enhancing capabilities in operating liquid-cooling systems to manage heat generated by high-performance servers.
Field trials at Pyeongchon Center 2... Joint analysis of coolant and equipment data
LG Uplus Corp. and Ecolab Korea said on the 28th that they had signed an MOU on optimizing the operation of AI data center cooling systems at LG Uplus Corp.'s headquarters in Yongsan-gu, Seoul. The signing ceremony was attended by Executive Director Jeong Suk-gyeong, in charge of AIDC business at LG Uplus Corp., and Ecolab Korea CEO Ryu Yang-gwon, among others.
The two sides will combine LG Uplus Corp.'s data center construction and operating capabilities with Ecolab Korea's water-treatment and coolant-management technologies to develop liquid-cooling operating standards. They will also conduct technical validation to ensure the stable operation of the 'TCS loop,' which circulates coolant by connecting AI server racks to cooling-water distribution units.
LG Uplus Corp. will provide a large-scale liquid-cooling test environment being built at Pyeongchon Center 2 to validate AI infrastructure based on next-generation GPU architecture. Ecolab Korea will establish a coolant quality-management framework using its digital water-quality management and monitoring system.
LG Uplus Corp. and Ecolab Korea plan to jointly analyze data on coolant conditions and data collected from key cooling equipment to validate operating standards and management measures. Their goal is to improve cooling stability for high-density, high-heat AI servers and establish a management framework that can identify signs of problems in liquid-cooling systems at an early stage.
AI-based predictive maintenance system also in the works
LG Uplus Corp. and Ecolab Korea plan to expand their cooperation by building a predictive maintenance system that uses AI to identify signs of problems in liquid-cooling equipment in advance and take action. They will also work to establish an integrated operating framework spanning equipment installation, coolant quality management and real-time monitoring.LG Uplus Corp. Executive Director Jeong Suk-gyeong, in charge of AIDC business, said, "As AIDCs become increasingly dense and heat-intensive, the ability to operate liquid-cooling systems is emerging as a key factor in AI infrastructure competitiveness. Through this cooperation, we will establish liquid-cooling operating standards and a quality-management framework, and provide our customers with a more stable and reliable operating environment for AI data centers."
Ecolab Korea CEO Ryu Yang-gwon said, "For AIDCs to operate stably, systematic management of coolants is essential, in addition to cooling equipment. Drawing on Ecolab Korea's global expertise in data center water treatment and monitoring, we will work with LG Uplus Corp. to improve the reliability of liquid-cooling operations and help establish operating standards."
