[Financial News] SK Broadband is stepping up its cooperation with LS Marine Solution, a company specializing in submarine cable construction, to ensure the stable operation of submarine cables.
As use of submarine cables surges amid increased use of artificial intelligence (AI) services or global content, their stable operation is emerging as a key factor in network operations strategy.
SK Broadband said on the 28th that it had signed an agreement with LS Marine Solution on the operation and repair of submarine cables. The agreement is intended to ensure the stable operation of SK Broadband’s SJC2 (Southeast Asia-Japan Cable 2), which connects Asian regions including Korea, Japan and Singapore.
The two sides agreed to keep an emergency-response fleet and specialized equipment on standby and to standardize technical data and repair strategies in advance.
If a submarine cable develops a fault, the plan is to shorten repair times by coordinating the recovery process, from dispatching crews to the site to cable retrieval, connection and precision burial.
In particular, they will focus on managing the shallow-water section along the Busan coast, where submarine cable faults are possible. Access by large vessels is restricted in this area, making marine expertise and a rapid on-site response necessary in the event of an accident.
SK Broadband will provide route-analysis data and monitoring capabilities accumulated around its Busan cable landing station. LS Marine Solution will handle emergency work on site, drawing on its experience operating specialized work vessels and its expertise in professional diving and construction engineering.
Seong Jin-su, head of SK Broadband’s Network Center, said, “The SJC2 submarine cable is a global data network hub connecting Asia and South Korea,” adding, “Through this cooperation, we will strengthen the stability of coastal sections and provide the best possible service to a wide range of clients.”
