【Financial News, Daegu = Reporter Kim Jang-uk】“I’m very pleased to be able to help lead Daegu’s change and growth, and I will do my utmost to achieve results that citizens can feel in their daily lives.”
Daegu City says Administrative Vice Mayor Sim Yeong-jae will take office on the 28th and officially begin his duties by attending a meeting on key issues chaired by the mayor, without a separate inauguration ceremony. He will share his thoughts on taking office and discuss major issues at the meeting.
Born in Seoul, Vice Mayor Sim graduated from Seoul Eonnam High School and Yonsei University’s Department of Public Administration. He entered public service after passing the 43rd Higher Civil Service Examination.
He went on to build experience in policy planning and organizational management, serving in posts including director of the Social Organization Division, Economic Organization Division, and Organization Planning Division at the Ministry of the Interior and Safety (MOIS). He also served as head of the Planning and Coordination Office of the Gyeongsangbuk-do Provincial Government and director of MOIS’s Organization Bureau, handling a broad range of major policies and issues at both the central and local levels.
In particular, drawing on his experience coordinating local issues and metropolitan administration while serving as head of the Planning and Coordination Office of the Gyeongsangbuk-do Provincial Government, he is expected to help advance Daegu City’s key priorities requiring extensive regional cooperation, including construction of the Daegu–North Gyeongsang New Airport, Daegu–North Gyeongsang administrative integration, and attracting the second round of public institution relocations.
Vice Mayor Sim said, “I feel a heavy sense of responsibility as I take on this important role at a time that will shape Daegu’s future,” and stressed, “I will faithfully reflect the voices of citizens and people on the ground in city administration, bring the organization’s capabilities together to address urgent challenges, and deliver results that improve citizens’ lives.”
In particular, drawing on the administrative capabilities and foundation for external cooperation he has developed in central government, he plans to maintain close communication with the government, the National Assembly, and others, and serve as a bridge to ensure that Daegu City’s major projects are reflected in national policies and the government budget.
Meanwhile, after the meeting on key issues, Vice Mayor Sim will visit the Dongin Government Building to encourage employees and hear their views. In the afternoon, he will pay a courtesy call on the chair of the Daegu Metropolitan Council to seek cooperation on city administration, then receive briefings on major municipal issues, starting with disaster safety and firefighting.
