[Financial News] A report has emerged that Seungri (35, whose real name is Lee Seung-hyun), a former member of the group BigBang, is expecting a son in January next year. A remark he made in an interview with a media outlet investigating allegations of assault at a drinking gathering is said to have provided the lead.
On the 26th, the new online outlet Gray News reported that Seungri is dating a non-celebrity woman in her 20s and is expected to have a son next January. The outlet said the two had set up a home in Seoul’s Gangnam District and plan to hold a wedding after the birth.
Gray News is an outlet whose editor-in-chief is Lee Se-wook, the operator of the YouTube channel Karakyula, which once had one million subscribers. After the YouTube channel was shut down this year, Lee registered Gray News as an online newspaper last July and took charge of its publishing and editing.
According to the report, while covering the so-called “soju bottle incident” involving Seungri, reporters met and interviewed Seungri and the complainant’s side separately in person. When Seungri remarked at the time that he had a family to protect, the reporters reportedly learned that his partner was pregnant while conducting further inquiries to verify the information.
Seungri debuted as a member of BigBang in 2006, but was identified as a key figure in the 2019 Burning Sun scandal, left the group and announced his retirement from the entertainment industry. He was later given a final prison sentence of one year and six months on nine charges, including habitual gambling and arranging prostitution, and was released after completing his sentence in February 2023.
Seungri was previously booked on suspicion of threatening and assaulting a man in his 30s with a soju bottle at a restaurant in Seoul’s Gangnam District last August. His side reportedly denies the allegations, acknowledging that he held the bottle but saying that he neither struck nor threatened the other person.
Seungri’s side has not yet issued an official statement regarding the report that he is expecting a son.
