[Financial News] Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon made an emergency visit to the fire scene in Guryong Village, Gaepo-dong, Gangnam-gu, on the 27th, inspected firefighting efforts and ordered all-out efforts to prevent the wildfire from spreading and protect evacuees.
After receiving a briefing on firefighting efforts and resident evacuations that afternoon in the Disaster and Safety Situation Room on the third basement level of Seoul City Hall, Mayor Oh canceled all his scheduled engagements, including a dinner with incumbent opposition lawmakers, and headed to the fire scene.
At the scene, Mayor Oh checked with fire authorities on the firefighting operation and the damage, and inspected whether measures to evacuate residents and ensure their safety were being properly carried out.
In particular, given that Guryong Village is densely packed with makeshift structures and lies close to forested areas, he urged officials to focus on preventing the flames from spreading to the mountains.
At the scene, Mayor Oh told firefighters, “Above all, please do everything possible to keep the fire from spreading to the surrounding mountains,” and added, “Please take special care right to the end to ensure that no firefighters are injured during firefighting operations.”
He also put emergency housing support measures in place for residents who had lost their homes to the fire. Mayor Oh said, “I will make sure to secure four nearby accommodations and two locations, including a nearby middle school, and manage the arrangements closely so evacuees can spend tonight without inconvenience.”
Immediately after the fire broke out, Mayor Oh issued an emergency order to mobilize all available personnel and equipment and extinguish it swiftly. Given the area’s concentration of makeshift structures, he preemptively raised the firefighting response level to Level 2 and ordered firefighting resources to be assembled quickly to prevent the fire from spreading.
He also sent the Second Vice Mayor for Administrative Affairs to the scene ahead of him to check on firefighting efforts and resident evacuations. He called for close cooperation among relevant agencies and the construction of firebreaks to ensure residents’ safety and prevent the wildfire from spreading.
Mayor Oh said, “We will do everything we can until the fire is completely extinguished,” pledging to spare no effort in fighting the fire and supporting residents affected by it.
