[Financial News] Comedian Jeong Jong-cheol sold his apartment in Ilsan New Town, Goyang, Gyeonggi Province, and moved to Seoul at his wife’s request, according to a report. She reportedly pressed him so strongly that she said she would divorce him if he did not move to Seoul.
In a video released on the YouTube channel ‘Kim Gu-ra Economic Research Institute’ on the 26th, actor Lee Kye-in recounted how he had bought an apartment in Ilsan New Town at Jeong Jong-cheol’s suggestion.
Lee Kye-in said he had moved to Siksa-dong in Ilsandong-gu, Goyang, Gyeonggi Province, on Jeong Jong-cheol’s recommendation.
Jeong Jong-cheol recommended the apartment while the two were appearing on a variety show on Korean Broadcasting System (KBS). Lee Kye-in said, “I did a live variety show with Jeong Jong-cheol on KBS,” and recalled their conversation: “He said, ‘Senior, I got a 70-something-pyeong Xi apartment in Siksa-dong, and it’s incredible. I hear there’s an amazing fishing spot just to the right of the entrance.’”
Lee Kye-in, who enjoyed fishing, was interested to hear that there was a fishing spot near the apartment. He said, “Jeong Jong-cheol told me I should definitely move in, since we could go fishing together from then on. I think comments like that played a part.”
But after living in Ilsan New Town for about a year, Jeong Jong-cheol sold the apartment. Kim Gu-ra said, “Jong-cheol makes decisions quickly. He’d been there for exactly a year, then said, ‘This isn’t it,’ and sold it and left right away,” adding that Jeong Jong-cheol had quickly decided to move.
Jeong Jong-cheol reportedly decided to move because of his wife’s request. Lee Kye-in said, “I asked why he was leaving, and he said his wife had told him she would divorce him and that they should move to Seoul,” adding that Jeong Jong-cheol’s wife wanted to move to Seoul.
According to Lee Kye-in, Jeong Jong-cheol’s wife wanted to move to Seoul rather than wait for the price of the Ilsan apartment to rise. He said, “His wife said they should move even to a small place in Gangnam, so he left. She said, ‘How long can we wait for this place to rise in value?’ That’s why he left.”
Talking about what happened after Jeong Jong-cheol moved to Seoul, Kim Gu-ra said, “That’s why he moved somewhere around Seocho-dong or Bangbae-dong, and things worked out well for him.” He added, “I realized you really do have to listen to women.”
Recalling the time when he took Jeong Jong-cheol’s advice, Lee Kye-in joked, “Honestly, I was tempted by what Jeong Jong-cheol said. Now that I think of Ok Dong-ja, I suddenly get really heated.” He added, “It’s not that he scammed me.”
Jeong Jong-cheol reportedly bought a building in Jamwon-dong, Seocho-gu, Seoul, for 4.5 billion won last year, under a corporation’s name.
