[Financial News] Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon on the 27th ordered that all available personnel and equipment be mobilized to quickly extinguish the fire in Guryong Village, Gaepo-dong, Gangnam-gu, Seoul, with the lives and safety of citizens as the top priority.
According to the Seoul Metropolitan Government, Mayor Oh, noting that the fire site was adjacent to a forest, instructed the Gangnam-gu Parks and Green Spaces Division to immediately assess the situation at the scene and take necessary measures, including setting up a firebreak.
He also ordered that the fire response be raised to Level 2, given the risk that the densely packed temporary structures could allow the fire to spread quickly, and that firefighting resources be rapidly assembled to prevent it from spreading further.
Mayor Oh urgently dispatched Kim Seong-bo, the second vice mayor for administrative affairs, to the scene and instructed him to work closely with relevant agencies, including the fire department, police and Gangnam-gu, to ensure residents’ safety.
The fire broke out in Guryong Village at around 3:49 that day. Fire authorities received the first report at around 3:51 p.m. and dispatched crews. At 3:59, they issued a Level 1 response.
No casualties have reportedly been confirmed so far.
Fire authorities have deployed 168 personnel and 51 pieces of equipment so far. Gangnam-gu Office is handling support for displaced residents. The fire department said, “Nothing has been confirmed” regarding the cause of the fire or the possibility of arson.
According to the Seoul Housing & Urban Development Corporation (SH Corporation), the number of households living in Guryong Village, which had exceeded 1,000, has now fallen to 54 as a result of redevelopment.
