Ruling party: “Kim Keon Hee’s detention is a natural result ... the Supreme Court must issue a stern ruling”

[Financial News] The Democratic Party of Korea said on the 27th that the Supreme Court’s issuance of an additional detention warrant for Kim Keon Hee was “a natural result,” and called for it to “deliver a swift and rigorous ruling.”
Park Seong-jun, chief spokesperson for the Democratic Party of Korea, said in a written briefing that day, “Today (the 27th), the Supreme Court issued an additional detention warrant for Ms. Kim,” calling it “a natural decision in line with common sense among the public.”
The chief spokesperson said, “Ms. Kim is on trial on charges of selling public office involving her receipt of a Van Cleef & Arpels necklace, a Tiffany & Co. brooch, a painting by artist Lee Ufan, a gold turtle and a Christian Dior bag,” adding, “The very fact that Ms. Kim nearly went free because of delays in the trial is a shock to the public.”
He continued, “The additional detention is not the end of the matter. The Supreme Court referred the ‘Kim Keon Hee three major allegations’ case to the Grand Bench one day before its ruling was due, and has yet to reach a decision three months later,” adding, “Issuing this warrant has only bought time; it has not set justice right.”
He went on to say, “The Supreme Court must deliver a rigorous ruling commensurate with the crime,” and pointed out, “The five-year prison sentence handed down in the second trial is woefully lenient compared with Ms. Kim’s crime of selling public office to obtain luxury goods.”
He also stressed, “What the public wants is justice without delay, and punishment commensurate with the crime,” adding, “That is the duty the public entrusted to the judiciary.”
