Service by Lotte coupon issuer Giftiel suspended

[Financial News] The Giftiel service, which issues mobile gift vouchers for brands affiliated with Lotte Group, has been suspended. Spoon, a subsidiary of Daehong Communications Inc. that operates Giftiel, found additional areas requiring improvement following the hacking-related leak of customers’ personal information on the 22nd and began taking corrective measures.
Daehong Communications Inc., Spoon’s parent company, said on the 27th that the Giftiel service was suspended from 8:30 p.m. on the 26th. Customers can no longer look up or use coupons. Access to the website and to pages where the coupons were sold on online marketplaces has also been suspended.
Spoon announced on its website on the 25th that it had confirmed the leak of the personal information of 18,359 customers due to unauthorized external access (hacking) on the 22nd. As soon as it became aware of the leak, Spoon implemented security measures, including blocking the attacking IP address (internet address). A review of the service as a whole subsequently identified additional areas requiring improvement.
Spoon is a subsidiary of Daehong Communications Inc., Lotte Group’s advertising affiliate. The coupon service is expected to resume in stages after verification. The validity periods of coupons that expire during the suspension will be extended. However, a date for resuming the service has not yet been set.
A Spoon representative said, “We will do our utmost to minimize inconvenience to customers and provide a safe service.”
