【Financial News, Hoengseong = Reporter Kim Gi-seop】Hoengseong County Governor Jang Shin-sang visited the National Assembly and asked lawmakers from both ruling and opposition parties to secure state funding for local priorities targeting an era of 5 million tourists, including a walking trail in Podong-ri, Gapcheon, and healing tourism development at Taegi Mountain.
According to Hoengseong County on the 27th, Governor Jang visited the National Assembly Members’ Office Building in Seoul that day and discussed a bipartisan strategy to secure state funding for next year’s national investment projects and advance major local priorities. The visit was arranged to explain the need and urgency of the projects and win support from the National Assembly, so that Hoengseong County’s key projects could be included in the government’s budget.
Governor Jang first met People Power Party lawmaker Yoo Sang-bum, who represents the district (Hongcheon, Hoengseong, Yeongwol and Pyeongchang), and explained plans to advance sustainable tourism projects, including a walking trail in Podong-ri, Gapcheon, and healing tourism development at Taegi Mountain. The two also discussed how to respond to a competitive program for basic income in farming and fishing communities, and agreed to join forces to secure state funding for local priorities and get projects selected.
He then met Democratic Party of Korea lawmakers Lee Gwang-hee and Kim Won-i in turn, shared local priorities and, instead of urging budget cooperation, requested their support, strengthening a cooperative framework spanning both ruling and opposition parties. The county plans to continue visiting central government agencies and the National Assembly to ensure that budgets for major projects are included.
Do Man-jo, Hoengseong County’s planning and budget officer, said, “The walking trail in Podong-ri, Gapcheon, and tourism development at Taegi Mountain are stepping stones toward an era of 5 million tourists and a driving force for reviving the local economy.” He added, “Regardless of party, I will keep visiting the National Assembly and central government agencies and strive to ensure that all project budgets are included.”
