[Financial News] A Vietnamese female YouTuber said she was being threatened after turning down a Korean man’s offer to get her a discount on an airline ticket. The man claimed to know someone affiliated with an airline, but it was confirmed that the contact information he gave her was not the number of an airline branch manager.
On the 26th, JTBC’s “Scandal Supervisor” reported that Vietnamese travel YouTuber Linh Oi was looking into flights to South Korea while livestreaming locally on September 27. A man who appeared in the chat approached her, saying, “I’ll help you buy a plane ticket at a lower price.” The man later showed up at the airport and claimed he knew people at an airline and could lower the fare by 30–50%.
Linh Oi did not accept the offer, but the man kept asking her to share her KakaoTalk ID. He then gave her a phone number, saying it belonged to an airline branch manager he had known for 20 years.
The call did not go through at first, but when contact was made later, a Vietnamese man, not a Korean, answered. The person on the other end said he was not an airline branch manager: “I’m not the branch manager.”
After Linh Oi confirmed that the contact number was not that of an airline branch manager, the man shouted, “Why don’t you believe me?” and left. After Linh Oi posted a video of what happened on YouTube, the man’s attitude reportedly became even more hostile.
The man reportedly sent messages via social media (SNS), saying, “Take the video down right now,” “I’ve reported you to the police,” and “If you come to Korea, I won’t leave you alone.”
Threatening remarks continued in the comments on Linh Oi’s livestream as well. The man reportedly left comments saying, “I’m watching you,” “I’m behind a statue,” and “Take down all the videos. This is your final warning.” Linh Oi is considering reporting the man’s conduct to police in South Korea and Vietnam.
