[Financial News] Starfield Hanam and Goyang, operated by Shinsegae Property, received the highest rating for the third consecutive year in a global environmental, social and governance (ESG) assessment for real estate.
According to industry sources on the 27th, Starfield Hanam and Goyang earned the top rating, ‘5-Star,’ in the 2026 GRESB (Global Real Estate Sustainability Benchmark). The two properties have maintained the highest rating for three consecutive years after becoming the first in South Korea’s retail sector to receive 5 stars in 2024.
This year, Hanam scored 91.54 and Goyang 92.90, each setting a record high since participating in the GRESB assessment. GRESB evaluates ESG policies and operational performance at real estate assets and of real estate managers worldwide. The 5-Star rating is awarded to the top 20% of participating companies and assets overall.
In the Management category, Hanam and Goyang each scored 29.89 out of a possible 30. The assessment covers ESG goals and management systems, environmental, social and governance policies, and systems for managing transition and physical risks related to climate change, among other areas. Both properties received full marks in all four subcategories, including leadership, policy, disclosure and risk management.
They also received high marks in the Performance category for areas including tenant and community engagement and environmental data monitoring.
Shinsegae Property established a dedicated ESG department in 2021 and launched its in-house eco-friendly building research organization, Eco-Lab, in 2022. Since 2023, it has published a Sustainable Development Guidebook outlining its own ESG development principles.
Shinsegae Property CEO Lee Hyeong-cheon said, “Earning the highest GRESB rating for three consecutive years and achieving our highest score to date are the fruits of our efforts to make sustainability a core principle of development and operations and to put it into practice consistently. We will continue to enhance the sustainable value of our spaces through eco-friendly development and responsible asset management, and contribute to strengthening the ESG competitiveness of South Korea’s real estate industry.”
