[Financial News] K Bank received the Financial Services Commission Chairperson’s Award in the financial inclusion category in recognition of its efforts to expand young people’s opportunities to work in the financial sector and prevent underage customers from becoming victims of financial crimes.
According to financial industry sources on the 27th, K Bank received institutional and individual commendations in the financial inclusion category at the ceremony marking the 11th Financial Day, hosted by the Financial Services Commission that day.
The institutional commendation is an award for “Expanding Youth Hiring,” newly established this year. This was the first time K Bank had received an institutional commendation on Financial Day, and CEO Woo-Hyung Choi accepted it on the bank’s behalf. K Bank was recognized for providing people at the start of their careers with opportunities to enter the financial sector through recruitment-linked internships it has run since 2022.
K Bank regularly runs recruitment-linked internships in the internet-only banking sector, where experienced hires make up a large share of recruitment. Since last year, it has expanded the program to twice a year, in the first and second halves of the year. Through internships held a total of seven times through this year, it has provided practical experience in finance and opportunities to explore career paths, and hired outstanding interns as full-time employees.
The individual commendation went to Jang Ji-eun, a manager on the card team responsible for “Alpha Card,” a service exclusively for underage customers. The recognition was for contributing to the development of a tailored fraud detection system (FDS) for customers aged 14 or older and under 19. K Bank used artificial intelligence (AI) to analyze underage customers’ transaction patterns and detect suspicious transactions that would have been difficult to catch with its existing FDS, which was designed primarily for adults. The bank said it had strengthened financial consumer protection through a dual FDS system tailored separately to adults and minors.
A K Bank representative said, “We will continue to take the lead in advancing and innovating the financial industry.”
