Sinan County: “Enjoy island travel and overnight stays in a camper van”

【Financial News, Sinan = Hwang Tae-jong, reporter】“Enjoy island travel and overnight stays in a camper van in Sinan.”
 Sinan County, in partnership with the Art Island Foundation, will operate the “2026 Sinan Seom Car pilot project” from the 31st through December 28, letting visitors enjoy island travel and accommodation in a camper van.
 According to Sinan County, “Seom Car” combines “seom,” meaning island, and “car,” meaning automobile. It is a new kind of tourism product that lets visitors travel around Sinan’s islands in a camper van and stay overnight in it.
 Users of “Seom Car” can pick up a vehicle near Mokpo Station, travel freely around several of Sinan’s islands, and return it to the same location. The vehicles are equipped with camping tables and cooking utensils, making them ideal for families, friends, and couples traveling together.
 On weekdays in particular, users can also receive a 10–30% discount on high-speed rail (KTX) fares.

 A Sinan County official said, “This project was developed to ease the transportation and accommodation difficulties unique to island travel,” and stressed, “By offering a way to travel and stay overnight in one package, we will extend the time tourists spend in Sinan and boost spending in the local economy.”
 Sinan County and the Art Island Foundation plan to make active use of visitor satisfaction ratings and operational data collected during the pilot period to launch the full-scale project next year and improve the service.
 An Art Island Foundation official said, “‘Seom Car’ is a new way to travel unique to Sinan that brings transportation and accommodation together,” adding, “We will successfully complete this pilot operation and work to make Sinan an island where visitors want to stay one more night.”
