[Financial News]  With morning temperatures on the 28th forecast to fall to -2°C, cold wave advisories will be issued in many parts of the country, including Gyeonggi, Gangwon State, the Chungcheong region, Honam and Yeongnam. Seoul’s morning low is expected to be 2°C. Temperatures will drop below freezing in some inland areas, where frost or ice is expected.
At 11 a.m. on the 27th, the Korea Meteorological Administration issued cold wave advisories for Gyeonggi’s Gapyeong, Icheon and Anseong; Gangwon State’s Chuncheon, Wonju and Taebaek; South Chungcheong’s Cheonan and Gongju; North Chungcheong’s Chungju and Jecheon; Daejeon and Sejong; Jeonju in North Jeolla; Gwangju; and parts of Daegu, among other areas. Ganghwa in Incheon and many inland areas of South Jeolla, North Gyeongsang and South Gyeongsang were also included. The advisories take effect at 9 p.m. today.
Cold wave advisories are issued from October through April of the following year when the morning low is expected to fall by at least 10 degrees from the previous day to 3°C or below, and to be at least 3 degrees below the seasonal average. They are also issued when morning lows of -12°C or lower are expected to persist for at least two days, or when a sharp drop in temperature is expected to cause significant damage.
On the 27th, skies will be mostly clear nationwide. Daytime highs of 15–20°C will be near seasonal averages. Highs are forecast at 16°C in Seoul, 15°C in Incheon and 16°C in Suwon.
Ulleungdo and Dokdo will receive less than 5 mm of rain through the morning. In Jeju’s mountainous areas, a few drops of rain—less than 0.1 mm—are forecast in some places through the morning.
Strong winds will blow along the west coast, parts of the southern coast of South Jeolla, Jeju Island and the east coast of the Gyeongsang region. Gusts are forecast to reach at least 20 meters per second, and at least 25 meters per second in mountainous areas. In most other parts of the country, gusts of around 15 meters per second are expected through the morning of the 28th.
Skies will be mostly clear nationwide on the 28th, but morning temperatures will drop sharply. According to a weather briefing issued by the Korea Meteorological Administration at 4:20 a.m. on the 27th, morning lows will range from -2°C to 7°C, around 5–10 degrees lower than the previous day. Daytime highs are forecast at 11–16°C.
Morning temperatures will fall below freezing in northeastern Gyeonggi, inland and mountainous areas of Gangwon State, North Chungcheong and some southern inland areas. Strong winds will make it feel colder than the actual temperature. It would be wise to wear a thick coat on the way to work.
Frost is expected in places inland, with ice forming in some areas. The day-to-night temperature difference will widen to 10–15 degrees, so care is needed with crops and health. High waves driven by swells are expected along the east coast.
The cold will continue on the 29th. Morning lows are forecast to range from -1°C to 8°C, with daytime highs of 12–18°C. Some places, mainly inland and mountainous areas of Gangwon State, North Chungcheong and inland North Gyeongsang, will see temperatures below freezing. Rain will begin in the Seoul metropolitan area, inland and mountainous areas of Gangwon State, and South Chungcheong on the afternoon of the 29th. It is expected to spread to other parts of the Chungcheong region at night. Expected rainfall is 5–20 mm in Incheon, northern Gyeonggi and the Five West Sea Islands; 5–10 mm in Seoul, southern Gyeonggi, inland and mountainous areas of Gangwon State, Daejeon, Sejong and South Chungcheong; and around 5 mm in North Chungcheong.
