【Jakarta, Indonesia—Aulia Maulida Hamdani, correspondent】Malaysia will take delivery of its first two South Korean-made FA-50M Block 20 light attack aircraft on the 30th. The aircraft being delivered are part of a contract to acquire a total of 18.
According to local media on the 27th, Malaysian Defense Minister Mohamed Khaled Nordin announced the delivery schedule for the first two aircraft the previous day, as he wrapped up discussions in the lower house on matters under the ministry’s purview related to the 2027 budget proposal.
Minister Khaled said, "We plan to acquire 18 FA-50M aircraft from South Korea. The aircraft will be stationed at Kuantan Air Base, and some will also be stationed at Labuan Air Base to strengthen air combat capabilities." He added, "I’m pleased that we will take delivery of the first two on the 30th of this month."
Malaysia’s Ministry of Defense and Korea Aerospace Industries (KAI) signed a contract in May 2023 to acquire 18 FA-50 Block 20 light attack aircraft. The Malaysian variant was designated the FA-50M, and the contract is worth about 4 billion ringgit (approximately 1.2 trillion won).
