[Financial News] Focus AI is expanding its financial capacity through capital increases and asset sales while addressing convertible bond (CB) repayments and investing in its industrial safety artificial intelligence (AI) business. The company aims to reduce operating losses, monetize non-operating assets and focus resources on its core business.
According to Focus AI on the 27th, the company has secured at least 5 billion won in cash after the first half through two rounds of paid-in capital increases and disposals of tangible assets. Following improved profitability in the first half, it is strengthening its financial structure in the second half through capital increases and asset realignment.
The company says it can also meet the immediate demand for early CB repayment. Of the 5.8 billion won remaining on its second CB, 2.8 billion won is subject to early redemption requests, excluding the portion held by the largest shareholder. The company said this was an amount it could comfortably cover with its available cash. Cash and cash equivalents stood at 13.35 billion won at the end of the first half.
The operating loss in the first half narrowed by about 40% from the same period a year earlier. Total equity rose 42% from the end of the previous period, and the debt ratio stood at 65.8%. The company is pursuing removal from the investment-caution issue designation, citing improved finances and stronger internal controls. As grounds for expecting removal, it pointed to the omission of disclosures related to uncertainty from the designated auditor’s review opinion for the first half.
The funds raised this time will be invested in a physical AI platform business focused on industrial safety. The company plans to expand the scope of applications to manufacturing plants, shipyards, logistics centers, power plants and construction sites by integrating AI cameras and servers, network video recorders (NVRs), and ultra-low-latency video transmission technology.
By the end of the year, the company plans to complete development of an integrated AI server combining AI box and NVR functions, and expand its lineup of high-performance embedded recorders with 36- and 64-channel models.
A company representative stressed, “We are continuing to strengthen financial soundness and advance our internal control system to improve management stability, while also focusing on securing medium- and long-term growth drivers.”
Meanwhile, industry observers also said that if Focus AI secures funds for repayments through capital increases and asset sales, it could reduce short-term liquidity pressures. One industry source added, “Going forward, whether orders for the industrial safety AI business translate into sales and operating cash inflows will be the benchmark for assessing the sustainability of the financial improvement.”
