[Financial News] Actor and TV personality Jeong Ga-eun received a shocking appraisal result while selling the wedding ring she had kept since her divorce.
A video titled “The Secret of Jeong Ga-eun’s Wedding Ring, Which She Learned for the First Time in 10 Years” was uploaded to her YouTube channel on the 26th.
The video showed Jeong visiting Jongno and Namdaemun Market in Seoul to buy new jewelry. As she sorted through the gold items she had kept at home, she decided to have her wedding ring appraised as well.
A member of the production crew asked, “Are you selling your wedding ring now?” Jeong replied, “What’s the point of keeping it? I got divorced a year after getting married, so I never wore the ring.”
The wedding ring was engraved with the logo of luxury jewelry brand Tiffany Young. But after the appraisal found that the engraving on the ring did not match that of an authentic product, Jeong was shocked.
The appraiser said there was at least a 90% chance it was counterfeit, adding, “It looks like a product pretending to be Tiffany Young.” The appraiser also explained that the platinum and diamond themselves were genuine, but that there was no appraisal certificate, so an accurate assessment was needed.
Jeong angrily said, “I’m annoyed. I didn’t even get child support, and I’m trying to sell this to make up for it.” She then recalled a difficult period when she was struggling financially. When the production crew asked why she had kept the ring instead of selling it at the time, she revealed, “My depression was so bad that I couldn’t think about anything. If I’d come to have it appraised back then, wouldn’t I have become even more depressed?”
Jeong later decided to sell some of the gold and silver jewelry she had brought in and have a new ring made. However, considering that gold prices could rise, she decided to keep some of the gold for now rather than sell it.
Meanwhile, Jeong has been raising her daughter alone since divorcing in 2018. Her ex-husband was reported to have stolen Jeong’s identity and extorted 13.2 billion won in 660 separate instances. Jeong filed a criminal complaint against him on fraud charges.
