[Financial News] Everland's youngest baby panda, Shu Bao, will be unveiled to the public starting on the 30th.
She will gradually expand her range beyond the indoor quarters where she has been living, and viewing hours and visitor numbers are also expected to increase in stages.
Samsung C&T Resort Group, which operates Everland, said on the 27th that Shu Bao, a baby panda born this past June and nearing five months of age, will be unveiled at Panda World starting on the 30th.
Shu Bao is a female giant panda, naturally conceived and born on June 3 to her mother, Ai Bao, and father, Lebao. She is the fourth baby panda born in Korea, following her older sisters Fu Bao and the twin pandas Rui Bao and Hui Bao.
Her weight, just 171 grams at birth, has now surpassed 9 kilograms. She began walking on all fours at around 120 days old, and has recently been spending more time moving around on her own beside her mother and exploring her surroundings, according to Everland.
Ahead of Shu Bao's first outing, Everland is guiding her through a gradual acclimation process so she can get used to the new space and environment.
For the time being, Everland plans to increase viewing hours and visitor numbers gradually so Shu Bao can slowly adjust to her new environment, with her health and a stable transition as its top priorities.
'Panda Grandpa' zookeeper Kang Cheol-won said, "While relying on her mother, Ai Bao, Shu Bao is looking around and exploring on her own, gradually broadening her world." He added, "I hope you'll join us in cheering on Shu Bao as she ventures out, a bundle of playful mischief—toddling around, playing with her mother, Ai Bao, and practicing climbing trees."
Earlier, on reaching 100 days old, Shu Bao was given her name through a nationwide public naming contest. The name means 'a bright treasure like the light of dawn.'
Everland Zoo Director Jung Dong-hee said, "Many people have shown Shu Bao warm interest and support from her birth and naming through her meeting with visitors." He added, "We will do our utmost to help Shu Bao grow up healthy and bring bright, warm joy to many people, true to the meaning of her name."
Meanwhile, the quarantine schedule for twin pandas Rui Bao and Hui Bao, Shu Bao's older sisters, ahead of their transfer to China has been finalized. Rui Bao and Hui Bao will begin formal quarantine procedures on the 13th of next month. Their last public viewing at Everland is scheduled for December 11, so visitors will be able to see father Lebao and mother Ai Bao, the twin older sisters Rui Bao and Hui Bao, and the youngest, Shu Bao, at Everland from the 30th through December 11.
