According to Hanshin Engineering & Construction on the 27th, CEO Jeon Jae-sik visited the “Siheung Hajung LH2” construction site on the 23rd to review workers’ health management and the safety and health management system for preventing seasonal illnesses.
The seasonal transition, when daily temperature swings have recently grown sharply wider, is a time when the risks of health problems and cerebrovascular and cardiovascular diseases among workers increase. In fact, data from the Korea Occupational Safety and Health Agency show that, in recent years, a considerable number of disease-related deaths at major construction companies were caused by cerebrovascular and cardiovascular diseases. This has made careful, prevention-focused health management at construction sites all the more important.
During the visit, CEO Jeon Jae-sik toured the site and focused on checking whether workers’ health conditions were being assessed and stretching exercises conducted before work; how workers particularly vulnerable to health problems, including older workers and those with high blood pressure, were being monitored; and the status of emergency response systems and emergency contact networks.
He also urged site personnel to carefully monitor workers and not overlook even minor signs of health problems, and called for thorough preparations to ensure a swift initial response and smooth coordination with outside medical institutions in an emergency.
CEO Jeon Jae-sik stressed, “Workers’ health and safety are values that must be protected above all else under any circumstances,” and added, “Because the seasonal transition calls for more careful management than usual, please carry out thorough preventive measures at every stage, from checking workers’ health before work to responding to emergencies.”
Meanwhile, Hanshin Engineering & Construction continues its site-centered safety management, with executives visiting sites themselves to identify and address hazards in advance. The company plans to establish a proactive safety management system by combining tailored prevention activities suited to seasonal risks with thorough health management.
A Hanshin Engineering & Construction representative said, “True safety management begins with preventing accidents and paying close attention to workers’ health as well,” adding, “We will continue to strengthen site-by-site inspections and prevention efforts through the end of the year and ensure that we achieve our goal of ‘ZERO serious accidents for six consecutive years.’”
