[Financial News] Asung Daiso will invest 600 billion won to build an integrated online and offline logistics center in Yangju, Gyeonggi Province. The goal is to expand logistics capacity and ensure a stable supply of products to its stores nationwide and its online shopping mall, Daiso Mall.
According to industry sources on the 27th, Asung Daiso held a groundbreaking ceremony for the Yangju Hub Center the previous day at the Eunnam Industrial Complex in Yangju, Gyeonggi Province. About 400 people attended, including Asung Daiso Chairman Park Jeong-bu, Yangju Mayor Jeong Deok-yeong, National Assembly member Jeong Seong-ho, Yangju City Council Chair Han Sang-min, and former Minister of Commerce, Industry and Energy Lee Hee-beom.
The Yangju Hub Center is an integrated online and offline logistics center that Asung Daiso is building with a total investment of 600 billion won, with completion targeted for January 2029. It will have a site area of 111,600 square meters (33,759 pyeong) and a total floor area of 206,102 square meters (62,346 pyeong), with one basement level and four above-ground floors. It will be the company’s fourth logistics hub, following the existing Namsa Hub Center and Busan Hub Center and the Sejong Hub Center now under construction, and the largest logistics center operated by Asung Daiso.
Once completed, it is expected to supply products to about 800 Daiso stores in the Seoul metropolitan area and Gangwon Region and process 50,000 Daiso Mall orders a day. The target for total order-processing capacity is up to 350,000 orders per day.
The Yangju Hub Center’s key feature is its adoption of an “omnichannel” logistics model that processes orders from offline stores and the online shopping mall through a single system. Rather than operating online and offline logistics separately as before, the company plans to manage inventory and logistics equipment together, reducing duplicate storage and improving operational efficiency.
To that end, it will introduce advanced automation equipment from Knapp, a global logistics automation company. Key systems include the high-speed shuttle system (OSR), the goods-to-person system (GTP), and the order distribution system (ODS). The center is designed to process 20,000 orders per hour using a total of 478 high-speed shuttles and 46 lifts.
Asung Daiso is expanding its product-supply capacity by building logistics hubs in major regions across the country. The Namsa Hub Center, which opened in 2012, serves the Seoul metropolitan area and Gangwon Region, while the Busan Hub Center, which began operating in 2019, serves the Yeongnam and Honam regions. The Sejong Hub Center, scheduled to begin operations next April, will handle logistics for the Chungcheong region, the southern Seoul metropolitan area, and Daiso Mall.
Once the Yangju Hub Center is completed, product-supply capacity in Seoul, northern Gyeonggi, and northern Gangwon is expected to be further strengthened. The existing centers’ daily order-processing capacities are 230,000 orders at the Namsa Hub Center and 320,000 at the Busan Hub Center, while the Sejong Hub Center is targeting 300,000. The company says adding the Yangju Hub Center is expected to significantly increase its logistics capacity nationwide.
The center is also expected to boost the local economy. Asung Daiso expects its operation of the Yangju Hub Center to create about 1,000 jobs. Other anticipated effects include expanded local business activity by logistics and distribution companies and their partners, as well as increased consumer spending as the numbers of workers and visitors grow.
Asung Daiso Chairman Park Jeong-bu said, “We are breaking ground on the Yangju Hub Center, our fourth logistics center, to establish a foundation that can support Asung Daiso’s continued business expansion. We will work to hire local talent and foster mutually beneficial cooperation with local businesses so that the Yangju Hub Center can grow together with the local community.”
