【Financial News, Chuncheon = Reporter Kim Gi-seop】A joint bio and startup festival bringing together 62 overseas buyer companies from 19 countries and a record-high 120 promotional booths for companies and institutions will be held in Chuncheon for four days.
According to Chuncheon City on the 27th, the city will bring together the 2026 Gangwon Bio Expo, the 4th Chuncheon Startup Expo, and the 2026 Regional Startup Festival in Gangwon at Bomnae Gymnasium from the 29th through November 1. The event is co-hosted by Chuncheon, the Ministry of SMEs and Startups, and Gangwon State, and organized by the Gangwon Center for Creative Economy & Innovation, the Chuncheon Bioindustry Foundation, Kangwon National University, and Hallym University. Admission is free, and advance registration for hands-on programs and the detailed schedule are available on the event website.
Export and investment consultations to support business growth will be held intensively on the 29th and 30th, at the start of the event. Overseas buyer companies from the United States, Europe, Africa, Latin America, and elsewhere will sit down with 80 companies from the province for export consultations. An investment consultation session will also give startups the opportunity to present their technologies and business models to investors. At the exhibition hall, bio companies and startup support organizations will showcase technologies and products across fields including health functional foods, food, pharmaceuticals and in vitro diagnostics, and cosmetics.
The program will also feature events for startups and aspiring entrepreneurs. Startup BuS IR, where startups present their business models to investors, kicks off on the 29th, followed by Welcome to TIPS, with 12 teams taking part, on the 30th. On the 31st, the Gangwon Startup Competition, where young aspiring and early-stage entrepreneurs from the province compete, and Gangwon LIPS Connect Day, a networking event for investment institutions and startups, will be held.
The university student startup competition, featuring 10 teams from startup clubs at Kangwon National University and Hallym University, will select the top idea through public voting throughout the event and present awards on the final day. A mock crowdfunding activity will also let visitors invest in companies of their choice using virtual investment points received during advance registration, bringing visitors and startups closer together.
There will also be plenty of hands-on activities and performances for families. On the 31st, Daheuk, a YouTuber specializing in unusual animals, and TV Saengmul Dogam, a YouTuber specializing in biology, will give talks. On November 1, magician Kim Jun-pyo’s science show and a performance by Egg Baksa will take the stage. For three days starting on the 30th, the mobile career-experience center KidZania GO will offer children ages 4 to 13 the chance to try out a range of occupations, including forensic investigation, working in a hair salon, caring for pets, and banking.
Over the weekend, visitors can take part in hands-on science and technology programs, including building gene models, bio experiments, skin-type analysis, virtual-reality science activities, and making cosmetics. Participating companies will also sell their products and hold prize drawings on the 31st and November 1.
A Chuncheon City official said, “With overseas buyer companies, investment institutions, and university startup clubs all gathering in one place, this will give local businesses an opportunity to find new customers and sources of investment.” The official added, “We have also prepared plenty for families to enjoy together, including career experiences for children and science performances, so we hope many residents will come and get a close-up look at the bio industry and startup scene.”
