[Financial News] Disaster relief is changing. Bitcoin is becoming part of donations, traditionally centered on cash and goods, and there have also been cases where donations have helped provide equipment for relief efforts. Dunamu, which operates a virtual asset exchange, was recognized for such efforts and received a Presidential Citation at the Korean Red Cross’s anniversary ceremony.  According to the virtual asset industry on the 27th, Dunamu, which operates the virtual asset exchange Upbit, received the “Presidential Citation” in recognition of its contributions to national disaster relief and humanitarian efforts.
Dunamu attended the Korean Red Cross’s 121st anniversary ceremony, held at Woori Bank’s headquarters in Jung-gu, Seoul, on the 26th, and received a government commendation. Each year, to mark its founding, the Korean Red Cross identifies individuals and organizations that have contributed to Red Cross activities through their dedication in humanitarian settings, including domestic and international disasters, armed conflicts, and climate crises.
Dunamu has taken the lead in swiftly supporting recovery efforts and disaster victims when various disasters, including major wildfires, floods, and droughts, have struck. It was also highly praised for introducing donation methods using digital assets and helping expand emergency medical support infrastructure.
In particular, Bitcoin donations that drew on the strengths of a digital asset company stood out. During the major earthquake in Türkiye in 2023, Dunamu and Upbit users donated a total of 14 bitcoins in relief funds. It also donated Bitcoin toward flood recovery efforts in South Korea in 2025, demonstrating that digital assets can serve as a new means of contributing to society.
Dunamu also provided a total of 10.5 billion won from 2020 through 2021 to help prevent the spread of COVID-19 and support recovery efforts. In 2022, it donated 1 billion won to provide food assistance to residents of Ukraine, and has continued relief work amid humanitarian crises at home and abroad. It has broadened its social responsibility efforts beyond disaster relief to include support for financially vulnerable groups, education for future generations, and environmental and community initiatives. As of the first half of 2026, its cumulative investment in social contribution programs had reached 310.3 billion won.
“This Presidential Citation is meaningful because it reflects our efforts to fulfill our social responsibility by using the resources and technology available to our company in times of national disasters and crises,” said Dunamu CEO Kyungseok Oh. “We will continue to share and provide tangible support where help is needed, and work to connect the potential of digital assets and technology to social value.”
