[Financial News] Power equipment stocks are broadly higher early in the session as expectations of rising demand for power infrastructure amid the expansion of AI data centers continue.
As of 9:26 a.m. on the 27th, LS ELECTRIC Co., Ltd. was trading at 161,800 won, up 8,900 won (5.82%) from the previous session. It rose as high as 162,300 won intraday.
Hyosung Heavy Industries was up 81,000 won (4.37%) at 1,934,000 won, while HD Hyundai Electric Co., Ltd. was trading at 462,500 won, up 15,500 won (3.47%). Sanil Electric Co., Ltd. was also up 2,500 won (4.56%) at 57,300 won.
Expectations that demand for power equipment such as transformers, switchboards and circuit breakers will expand as AI data centers are built out are believed to have boosted investor sentiment toward related stocks. In the United States, investment in microgrids and power equipment is growing as AI data centers rapidly proliferate amid limited power-grid capacity.
LS ELECTRIC Co., Ltd.'s recently reported strong results are also raising expectations for the power equipment sector. Its sales in the third quarter of this year rose 54.4% from a year earlier to 1.8778 trillion won, while operating profit increased 131.7% to 233.5 billion won. North American sales reached 500 billion won, while expanded sales of high-margin products, including data center switchboards and power distribution equipment, drove the results.
Brokerages expect domestic power equipment makers to benefit from increased investment in North American power grids as investment in AI data centers continues. In particular, with shortages of power equipment in the United States extending lead times for transformers and circuit breakers, forecasts suggest that domestic companies’ order outlook will remain favorable for the time being.
