On the 27th, K-water said it had signed a contract on the 22nd with local operator Song Dong (SDWTP) JSC to introduce AI water-treatment plant operating technology at the Song Dong Water Treatment Plant in Hanoi.
The overall project is planned in three phases, with a total value of 1.94 billion won. The Song Dong Water Treatment Plant is a major water supply facility in Hanoi, capable of producing 300,000 cubic meters of tap water per day. The scope of AI technology use is scheduled to expand in stages.
AI water-treatment plant technology analyzes water-quality and flow data in real time to optimize the treatment process. It predicts and controls the appropriate doses of coagulants and chlorine in response to changes in raw water quality, helping stabilize the tap water supply and reduce operating costs.
K-water said that securing a follow-up contract just six months after its first export had laid the groundwork for expanding overseas, with a focus on operating technology and software.
The AI water-treatment plant technology was selected as a “Global Lighthouse” by the World Economic Forum (WEF). It recently passed the formal vote on the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) Draft International Standard (DIS), and efforts are underway to establish an international standard in 2027.
Cooperation will also expand into local water and wastewater infrastructure. On the 21st, Korea Water Resources Corporation signed separate memoranda of understanding with VIWASEEN, a Vietnamese water and environmental infrastructure company, and the Vietnam Water Supply and Sewerage Association (VWSA). It plans to combine its water-management technology with the business capabilities of local companies and broaden cooperation to water and wastewater infrastructure development and investment projects.
Han Seong-yong, head of K-water’s Green Infrastructure Division, said, “This second export of AI water-treatment plant technology is encouraging because it confirms the potential for our water technologies to continue expanding overseas, from Ho Chi Minh City to Hanoi. We will combine world-class technical expertise with local networks and press ahead with the global expansion of K-water technology.”
