On the 27th, Hankook & Company said it had held donation ceremonies on the 26th at the Hanbat Center for Independent Living for Persons with Disabilities in Daejeon and the Wanju County Welfare Center for Persons with Disabilities in Jeonbuk Special Self-Governing Province, delivering 300 batteries to three local organizations supporting people with disabilities. The recipients are the Hanbat Center for Independent Living for Persons with Disabilities, the Daejeon Metropolitan City Assistive Technology Center at Chungnam National University Hospital, and the Wanju County Welfare Center for Persons with Disabilities.
Batteries for powered wheelchairs and scooters are essential consumables that users must replace regularly to get around in their daily lives. They have an average lifespan of 1–2 years, and the replacement interval can be shorter depending on travel distance and usage conditions, leaving users with an ongoing financial burden. Hankook & Company has continued this initiative since 2012, leveraging its strengths as a battery company to ease that burden and improve mobility for people with disabilities.
The company has worked closely with the Hanbat Center for Independent Living for Persons with Disabilities since the initiative began, while the Wanju County Welfare Center for Persons with Disabilities has been among the recipients since 2014.
A Hankook & Company Group representative said, “Under our integrated ESG brand, ‘Driving Forward Together,’ we carry out social contribution activities that foster shared prosperity with local communities. In addition to battery sharing, we have also operated ‘Vehicle Sharing’ since 2008, providing vehicles to social welfare organizations.”
