【Financial News, Incheon = Reporter Han Gap-su】 A tea culture event aimed at sharing the meaning and value of Korea’s traditional tea culture with citizens and passing on traditional etiquette will be held in Incheon.
Incheon City announced on the 27th that the 27th National Inseol Tea Culture Exhibition—Tea Etiquette Competition will be held at Gachon University’s Medical Campus from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on October 31.
The event is hosted and organized by the Gyubang Darye Preservation Association and the Korea Tea Culture Association, with support from Incheon City. It was organized to help preserve and promote Korea’s traditional culture by providing opportunities to learn traditional tea etiquette and experience a variety of tea cultures.
The event will feature a tea etiquette competition, a traditional tea ceremony demonstration, and hands-on programs for citizens. The competition will run from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., and a Seonbi Darye demonstration will be held in the auditorium at 1:50 p.m. Seonbi Darye is a traditional ritual in which people used tea to cultivate their mindset and practice sincerity and propriety. This will be followed by an opening ceremony at 2 p.m. and a celebratory performance at 2:30 p.m.
Tea tastings and traditional culture experience programs will be offered at the side-event area within the venue from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. In particular, visitors will be able to take part in a hands-on experience of traditional tea-making, using the technique of processing tea leaves into tea—and see firsthand how tea is made.
Anyone interested in traditional culture and tea may visit the venue without registering in advance. Admission and all hands-on programs are free.
Jang Eun-mi, head of Incheon City’s Cultural Heritage Division, said, “I hope this event will give citizens an opportunity to experience firsthand the traditional etiquette and cultural significance embodied in tea.”
