[Financial News] Dangjin, South Chungcheong Province, is once again pursuing a plan to provide 300,000 won to every resident after it fell through before last Chuseok. As a result, residents of Dangjin, South Chungcheong Province, will receive 300,000 won each in economic recovery support before Seollal next year.
People Power Party lawmakers also back Dangjin’s economic recovery support

According to Dangjin City and the Dangjin City Council, the council passed a draft ordinance submitted by the city at the plenary session of its 131st extraordinary session, held on the 23rd.
Of the 13 council members who took part in the vote, 12 voted in favor and one abstained. Of the 14 members in total, the remaining member did not vote and effectively abstained.
The draft ordinance was first introduced last August, ahead of Chuseok, but was blocked by opposition from the city council. At the time, the vote at the extraordinary session was evenly split, with seven in favor and seven against. The draft failed to secure majority support and was rejected.
This time, however, five of the seven People Power Party members who had voted against it then switched their position and voted in favor, allowing the ordinance to pass. Dangjin City plans to allocate 53 billion won for economic recovery support in next year’s budget proposal, with the aim of distributing the funds before Seollal.
Concerns over a slowdown in the economy amid high prices ... 53 billion won allocated

After the earlier rejection, Dangjin City resubmitted a draft ordinance with revised eligibility requirements and procedures for distributing the support. The ordinance, passed with amendments this time, sets out the conditions for economic recovery support in greater detail, including situations in which an economic downturn or rising prices raise concerns about the economy and people’s livelihoods.
Under the draft ordinance, support may also be provided if citizens’ financial burdens increase because of worsening employment conditions or a rising unemployment rate; if the local economy loses vitality because of reduced consumption or worsening conditions for small businesses; or if another situation with a significant impact on the economy and people’s livelihoods arises, such as a disaster or the closure or relocation of a large-scale company.
The ordinance also requires the mayor to prepare a report analyzing and evaluating the effects and outcomes of the economic recovery support payments within six months of the end of the period for using the funds, submit it to the city council, and publish it on the city’s website.
The support is expected to reach about 174,000 people, including residents registered in Dangjin City, as well as marriage migrants and permanent residents who meet certain requirements.
