[Financial News] U.S. President Donald Trump announced that he would pay a $1 million reward (about 1.3 billion won) to a tipster whose report of election fraud led to a conviction.
On the 26th (local time), U.S. media outlets including the New York Post reported that Trump said on social media, shortly before leaving the White House to attend a midterm-election rally in Mississippi, “I will pay $1 million to anyone who reports election fraud in the last election or the upcoming 2026 midterm elections and leads to the arrest and conviction of those involved.” He reiterated the offer while speaking with reporters before boarding Air Force One, saying, “I will give a $1 million bonus or reward to anyone who reports election fraud and leads to arrests and convictions.”
President Trump did not specify a particular channel or procedure for submitting tips to claim the reward. The U.S. Department of Justice had previously announced a reward program last week offering up to $30,000 (about 39.8 million won) for tips reporting fraud, primarily in the social welfare sector.
Convictions on charges of election fraud are relatively rare in the United States. According to the database of the conservative-leaning research institute The Heritage Foundation, only 557 substantiated cases of election fraud were recorded across the country from 2016 to 2025, including cases resulting in criminal penalties and official judicial rulings.
The Post also reported that the U.S. Department of Justice has recently focused its investigative resources on preventing illegal voting by noncitizens. The department announced 48 indictments that day and had also disclosed 16 indictments on October 12.
