\ \ SH announced on the 26th that it would launch a pilot of its “AI Customized Heating Guardian Project” for 100 households in SH public housing in Eunpyeong-gu.
The project combines Internet of Things (IoT) and artificial intelligence (AI) technologies to automatically and efficiently control heating in each household. It will replace aging thermostats free of charge with Wi-Fi-enabled smart thermostats and enable residents to control them remotely and check real-time usage through a mobile app.
A key feature is that AI learns and analyzes outdoor temperatures, time of day and each household’s heating-use patterns to automatically maintain an optimal temperature. The project is expected to reduce heating energy use by around 10% to 20%. Residents will also receive tailored energy-saving guidance, allowing them to manage their living environment more economically and conveniently.
Last October, SH recruited 100 eligible households in Eunpyeong-gu, and plans to replace their thermostats and install the mobile app in November. It will then closely analyze heating energy use, cost savings and resident satisfaction through April 2027. Based on the results of the pilot, SH plans to consider whether to incorporate the smart heating system into future rental housing designs and expand it to existing complexes it manages.
SH President Hwang Sang-ha said, “This project is an effort to tangibly ease the cost-of-living burden on rental housing residents through collaboration between public institutions and the use of advanced AI technology.” He emphasized, “We will carefully verify the pilot’s effects and develop it into a high-quality housing welfare service that citizens can experience in their daily lives.”
