[Financial News] Actor Yoon Eun-hye shared a more upbeat update after revealing that she had received treatment for allergy symptoms following a severe cold. Viral infections such as the common cold are one of the factors that can trigger acute hives. If skin rashes and itching recur or swelling is severe, the exact cause should be identified.
On the 24th, Yoon Eun-hye posted several photos on social media (SNS), along with the caption, “Today I look more like a penguin than a rabbit.”
In the photos, Yoon Eun-hye smiles at the camera wearing a gray knit top. They are everyday photos she posted after revealing that she had been suffering from severe allergy symptoms until recently.
Earlier, Yoon Eun-hye said on her YouTube channel, “Yoon Eun-hye’s Eunhye Login,” that she developed unusual skin symptoms after suffering a severe cold last month.
She said that her hand had become very swollen and that red rashes and itching appeared in several areas, including her neck, the tops of her feet, around her mouth and beneath her eyes. She explained that the itching was so severe she could not sleep properly, and that as the symptoms continued, she received medication and IV fluids.
She also spoke about her health as she recovered during a YouTube livestream held on the 6th, her birthday.
Yoon Eun-hye said, “I don’t know if I’ve been doing well. It feels like my battery runs out faster than it used to,” adding, “After I work, I’m completely wiped out.” She continued, “I still can’t eat hot food because of the allergy,” and added, “Last time, I let the seaweed soup cool and ate only the seaweed.”
Speaking about her skin, she explained, “I had a lot of dead skin coming up, but I smoothed it all down with lotion. New skin is growing in, like when your skin peels after tanning.”
Skin rashes after a cold: viral infection can also be a cause

If your skin turns red or starts itching after a cold, it may be necessary to check for skin conditions such as acute hives.
According to the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency’s National Health Information Portal, hives are characterized by itchy wheals that rise on the skin and may be red or white. The lesions can appear anywhere on the body. Most disappear within a few hours, only to recur elsewhere.
Hives are classified as acute or chronic based on how long they last. Symptoms lasting less than six weeks are classified as acute hives, while those lasting six weeks or more are classified as chronic hives.
The American Academy of Allergy, Asthma & Immunology (AAAAI) lists viral infections, food allergies, drug allergies and insect bites among the common triggers of acute hives.
Hives can sometimes develop after a viral infection such as a cold. However, the fact that someone has a cold alone is not enough to conclude that a viral infection caused the skin rash.
Medication taken to relieve cold symptoms should also be considered. The Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency says that some nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, including aspirin and ibuprofen, can worsen hives.
The exact diagnosis and cause of the skin symptoms Yoon Eun-hye experienced have not been disclosed.
Watch for angioedema, which can cause swelling around the eyes and lips

Along with hives, swelling may occur around the eyes, on the lips, or in the hands and feet.
The Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency describes this as angioedema. Unlike hives, which mainly affect the skin’s surface, angioedema is characterized by swelling in deeper layers of the skin or in mucous membranes.
Angioedema can occur at the same time as hives or on its own. The eyelids, lips or face may swell, sometimes accompanied by a burning or stinging sensation rather than itching.
Particular care is needed if the lips, tongue or inside of the throat swell, or if the voice suddenly becomes hoarse. This is because the airway can narrow and cause breathing problems.
According to the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency’s National Health Information Portal entry on “Anaphylaxis,” a severe allergic reaction can cause not only skin symptoms but also difficulty breathing, a drop in blood pressure, dizziness and fainting.
Anaphylaxis is a severe systemic reaction that can progress rapidly in a short time. If the lips and tongue swell and make breathing difficult, or if consciousness becomes impaired, call 119 immediately.
However, severe itching or a skin rash does not necessarily mean someone is experiencing anaphylaxis. The speed at which symptoms appear and any respiratory or circulatory symptoms should also be assessed.
If itching recurs, identify its causes and triggers

If allergy symptoms improve and then return, identifying when they began, what medications were taken, what foods were eaten and whether an infection was present can help with diagnosis.
The Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency explains that although the cause of hives is often difficult to identify, the basic principle of treatment is to find and avoid factors that worsen the symptoms.
Antihistamines are mainly used to treat hives. If symptoms are severe or cannot be controlled with standard treatment, medical professionals may consider other treatment options.
The U.S. Mayo Clinic recommends cooling the skin with a cold towel to ease itching from hives and washing with lukewarm or cool water rather than hot water. Avoiding tight clothing that irritates the skin can also help.
In particular, if skin rashes recur or swelling persists, it is important to seek care from a dermatologist or an allergist.
The Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency says taking photos of the skin when hives appear and recording how long each lesion lasts can help with diagnosis. By the time of an appointment, the rash may have disappeared, making it difficult to examine the skin directly.
