The Ministry of Justice said that it officially announced on the 26th that ICCA had selected Seoul to host its 29th Congress in 2030. The Korean Commercial Arbitration Board will host the event. ICCA is an international nongovernmental organization that serves in an advisory role to the United Nations (UN) in the field of international commercial arbitration. Since 1961, its congress has been held every two years over four days. More than 1,000 arbitration experts from various countries will attend.
Arbitration is a process for resolving disputes through a decision by an arbitrator chosen by agreement between the parties, without going through a court trial. An arbitral award has the same effect as a final court judgment and can be enforced across borders between countries that are parties to the New York Convention, making arbitration widely used to resolve disputes in international commerce.
The Ministry of Justice said the decision to hold the congress in Seoul reflected the international arbitration community’s high regard for the capabilities of Korea’s arbitration community, its arbitration-friendly legal framework, and the expertise of the Korean Commercial Arbitration Board.
A Ministry of Justice official said, “We will work closely with the Korean Commercial Arbitration Board to prepare for a successful congress and strive to help Korea emerge as a center for international dispute resolution.”
