[Financial News] A total of 2,210 people have been confirmed as victims of a recent data breach at KB Kookmin Bank. That is 2,091 more victims than the 119 initially identified.
According to KB Kookmin Bank on the 26th, after conducting an in-depth analysis of the existing data breach with supervisory authorities and relevant agencies, the bank confirmed that information belonging to an additional 2,091 people had been leaked, beyond the 119 initially identified.
The additional people identified comprise 1,631 customers and 460 employees and executives. The leak was not caused by a new hacking incident; it was discovered while the bank was re-examining the data and processing procedures of the system affected by the existing breach.
KB Kookmin Bank has cross-checked the initial investigation findings and analysis process with supervisory authorities and relevant agencies. In the process, additional people whose information had been leaked but who were not identified during the initial investigation came to light.
A KB Kookmin Bank official said, “We are sincerely sorry that we were unable to fully determine the scale of the data leak at the outset,” adding, “We will do our utmost to thoroughly prevent a recurrence and protect our customers.”
The bank plans to notify each customer whose information was additionally confirmed to have been leaked, informing them of the breach and how to prevent further harm.
