Twenty-eight Hansung University students took part in a local festival in Seongbuk-dong, Seoul, showcasing design content inspired by the area's history and food culture.
Hansung University said on the 26th that 28 students from its School of ICT Design participated in the 2026 Seongbuk Millojang, held across Seongbuk-dong for two days starting on the 23rd.
Seongbuk Millojang is a festival organized to promote the local brand “Seongbuk Millo,” which combines historical and cultural resources with Seongbuk-dong's local food culture, including bread and noodles.
The students' participation was part of Hansung University's “Design Lab for Solving Local Problems” course. The course was designed to have students apply design techniques learned in the classroom to the local community and work with residents to find ways to make use of local resources.
The students explored the Seongbuk-dong area and researched its history and cultural resources. Based on their findings, they created maps and design content reflecting the area's character, and presented souvenirs and exhibits that reinterpreted its cultural resources. They also ran hands-on programs for residents and visitors. Lee Seon-young, a fourth-year student in the School of ICT Design who took part in the project, said, “By communicating with residents and planning content that reflects the area's character, I was able to learn about the many ways design can contribute to the local community.”
Lee Ok-jae, a professor in Hansung University's School of ICT Design, said, “We will continue to expand opportunities for students majoring in design to work closely with local communities and create mutual benefits by drawing on their human and creative resources.”
