【Financial News, Hoengseong = Reporter Kim Gi-seop】Hoengseong Hanwoo, which has opened an export route to Qatar, is stepping up its push into the Middle East's halal market with a series of local promotional events in Dubai and visits by invited Middle Eastern buyers this week.
According to Hoengseong County on the 26th, Hoengseong Hanwoo held its first export shipment ceremony for Qatar on the 13th, followed by a launch event in Qatar on the 18th local time. The event drew interest from local consumers and distribution industry representatives, providing an opportunity to showcase Hoengseong Hanwoo's quality and competitiveness. The entry into Qatar is seen as a milestone in opening up sales channels for Hoengseong Hanwoo in the Middle East's halal market in earnest.
After making its first foray into Qatar, Hoengseong Hanwoo is expanding its reach to Dubai this week. For five days, from the 26th to the 30th, the Hoengseong Livestock Cooperative will hold a local promotional event in Dubai, the Middle East's largest commercial and economic city, to highlight the excellence of Hoengseong Hanwoo and build a foundation for cooperation with local distribution networks.
As part of an event inviting major buyers from the Middle East, hosted by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs and the Korea Agro-Fisheries & Food Trade Corporation, a delegation of Middle Eastern buyers will also visit Hoengseong. The delegation plans to tour the county's halal-certified slaughterhouse and export processing facility—the only such operation in the country—and closely inspect its hygiene and safety management systems and production processes, as well as discuss ways to expand export contracts.
The county continues to provide administrative and financial support, including assistance in obtaining halal certification, improvements to export processing facilities, and stronger overseas marketing.
Hoengseong County Governor Jang Shin-sang said, “Hoengseong Hanwoo, produced under hygienic and safe conditions at a halal-certified slaughterhouse, has been recognized by Qatari consumers for its taste and quality.” He added, “We will turn the Dubai promotional event and the buyer delegation’s on-site inspections into actual export contracts, and use the Middle East as a springboard to firmly establish Hoengseong Hanwoo’s name in the global premium meat market.”
