[Financial News] The Seoul Metropolitan Government will select this year’s ‘Outstanding Construction Sites for Video Recordkeeping.’ It plans to make its final selections in November—five sites in the public sector and nine in the private sector—and hold an awards ceremony and presentation of best practices in December.
According to the Seoul Metropolitan Government on the 27th, in July 2023 it issued a message asking private construction companies to participate in video recording and record management, in order to improve transparency and safety at construction sites and prevent shoddy construction.
Since then, the city has expanded video recordkeeping to all publicly commissioned construction sites and private sites subject to building permits and project plan approvals, and has continued to monitor compliance with the recordkeeping requirements.
Eligible applicants for this year’s outstanding-site selection are public and private construction sites that have participated in video recordkeeping and meet the evaluation criteria recommended by the relevant institutions or departments.
Applications are due by 6 p.m. on November 6. Construction contractors wishing to take part should apply to the commissioning agency for public projects, or to the autonomous district with jurisdiction over the site for private projects. Further details, including application documents and selection criteria, are available under notices and announcements on the Seoul Metropolitan Government website.
The main evaluation criteria include the thoroughness of filming plans; the appropriateness of the filming scope and quality, and of the submission timing; the video materials management system and use of new technologies; the results of using video for safety and quality management; and the potential to spread best practices. Seoul Metropolitan Government Construction Technology Policy Officer Kim Yong-hak said, “To achieve our goal of ‘Zero Defective Construction in Seoul,’ I ask for many people involved in outstanding construction sites to take part, having faithfully cooperated with the Seoul Metropolitan Government’s video recordkeeping efforts so far.”
