【Financial News, Jeonju = Reporter Kang In】 A man in his 70s who killed his wife while subject to separation measures for domestic violence has been referred to prosecutors.
Police said on the 26th that they had referred A, a man in his 70s, to prosecutors in custody on suspicion of murder.
His wife, B, was found dead at around 5 p.m. on the 14th in a multi-unit residential building in Deokjin-gu, Jeonju.
Police responding to a report of bloodstains found B dead from stab wounds.
Police arrested A, her husband, in Seocheon, South Chungcheong Province, at around 8:40 p.m. that same day. A is believed to have fled in his own car from Jeonju, North Jeolla Province, to Seocheon after the crime.
A had been subject to all of the court’s interim measures Nos. 1–3 for stalking his wife. He had reportedly committed domestic violence several times before. He also sent dozens of text messages expressing resentment to his wife while they were living apart.
Police, who had received several reports from B, classified A as high-risk but were unable to prevent the crime.
Immediately after the crime, A also behaved bizarrely, writing on a wall at the scene: “A couple makes up within a week after a fight; the police encouraged murder.”
Based on the National Forensic Service’s autopsy findings and the suspect’s statements, police established the motive and circumstances of the crime and referred the case to prosecutors.
