[Financial News] Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon attended a memorial ceremony on the 26th marking the 47th anniversary of former President Park Chung Hee’s death and stressed that the gains from economic growth should lead to an improved quality of life for every citizen. According to the Seoul Metropolitan Government, Mayor Oh attended the ceremony at the Seoul National Cemetery in Dongjak-gu, Seoul, at 11 a.m. that day, laid flowers and delivered remarks.
Mayor Oh said, “South Korea’s standing in the world has changed beyond comparison with half a century ago, and Seoul, too, has grown into a global city that attracts talent, businesses, international students and tourists from around the world. If industrialization laid the foundations for a ‘prosperous country,’ we must now usher in an era of ‘prosperous citizens.’”
He added, “Only when the fruits of growth lead to a better quality of life for each and every citizen can we call it true prosperity. As South Korea becomes stronger and more prosperous, I will fulfill my duties and responsibilities so that the people’s quality of life improves further.”
The memorial ceremony lasted about an hour and a half, with key figures including former National Assembly member Jeong Jae-ho and National Assembly member Na Kyung-won of the People Power Party in attendance.
