【Financial News | Suncheon = Hwang Tae-jong, staff reporter】 “We’re looking for 77 of Suncheon’s beautiful seniors.”
To mark the 77th anniversary of Suncheon becoming a city this year, Suncheon City is documenting the hidden, treasure-like lives of 77 seniors who have spent many years building their lives in their respective workplaces and become “living books of Suncheon.”
According to Suncheon City on the 26th, it is recruiting participants for the 2026 Intergenerational Empathy Memory Webtoon through the 30th to uncover the lives and stories of citizens who have helped shape present-day Suncheon, turn them into photographs and webtoons, and preserve them as valuable records of the region.
The aim is to seek out not only professionals who have worked in one occupation for a long time but also seniors who hold stories hidden throughout the community, creating opportunities for empathy and communication between generations.
A Suncheon City official said, “The story of each and every citizen who has done their best in their workplace throughout their lives and helped shape present-day Suncheon is, in itself, a valuable part of local history and a treasure. The completed content is expected to be used as a valuable cultural asset, sharing participants’ lives and experiences with the local community and passing them on to the next generation.”
Those eligible to apply are Suncheon residents aged 65 or older, including professionals who have worked in one field for a long time (both current workers and retirees), as well as seniors who have lived alongside the city and quietly carried on with their lives in their own ways.
Applications are open through the 30th and can be submitted by phone, email, or by scanning the QR code on the promotional poster. For more information, contact the organizers by email or phone.
Suncheon City plans to offer the 77 people selected special opportunities, including a portrait session with a professional photographer, a photo book and webtoon art poster featuring their stories, and a photo frame as a gift.
It also plans to invite participants to a photo exhibition and hold a meeting with a photographer at year-end.
A Suncheon City official said, “We hope for strong interest and participation from citizens so that the special stories in the lives of families and neighbors can be preserved in the record for years to come.”
