The University of Seoul said on the 26th that it had held the 67th Academic Seminar on National and Public University Libraries and Information Science at its Centennial Memorial Hall over two days, from the 22nd to the 23rd.
The seminar, hosted by the Association of National and Public University Libraries and organized by the University of Seoul Library, drew around 160 attendees, including library representatives from 52 member universities nationwide and representatives from related companies.
Participants discussed the role of university libraries in responding to the changing scholarly information environment and ways to advance research support services.
Major presentations included a case study on introducing a research performance management system by Kim Hyeong-gak of Kangwon National University; a case study on expanding a university library research trends analysis service by Lee Jeong-gyu of Kyungpook National University; and a model for the role of university libraries in the AI era by Kim Min-jun of Incheon National University.
Presentations on new technology trends from library-related companies followed. In a plenary discussion, participants shared key issues facing university libraries, including research performance management and AI-based research support.
UOS President Won Yong-geol said, "University libraries are now evolving beyond providing resources into core knowledge infrastructure that manages research outputs and data and uses information technology to support education and research. I hope this seminar will provide an opportunity to explore together the future direction of university libraries."
Joo Dae-won, director of UOS Central Library, said, "Through this seminar, we were able to share information and experience among national and public university libraries and discuss key issues and directions for the development of university libraries."
