[Financial News] This year, 521 families applied to the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education program in which elementary and middle school students in Seoul write a book with their families. After about five months of collaborative writing, 224 titles were published.
The Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education will hold an exhibition of the published family books from the 26th to the 30th, for five days, in the exhibition space on the first floor of its building. It is to the right as you enter through the main entrance, and anyone can freely look around and read the books.
Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education Superintendent Geun-sik Chung said, “Completing a book is by no means easy,” adding, “The very process of students and families continuing to think, write and revise together over the past five months has been a valuable learning and growth experience.”
‘2026 Seoul Student and Family Book-Making’ is a reading and humanities education program in which students in grades 4–6 of elementary school and grades 1–3 of middle school complete a book as co-authors with their families. It is now in its third year. Launched in June, the program saw families write books on their own topics, including travelogues, records of daily life, stories about memories and fairy tales they wrote together.
To help families complete their books, the education office held three online special lectures on writing and book-making for participating families. Students who wished to take part received three sessions each of live online reading and writing instruction at the elementary and middle school levels, while 22 program teachers helped students participate by serving as homeroom teachers for their respective groups.
An experience-sharing event will be held in the audiovisual room on the first floor of the education office from 4 to 6 p.m. on the 27th, during the exhibition. A total of 164 people from 82 families among those whose books were published and who wish to attend, along with 22 program teachers, are expected. The program will include a reading and writing special lecture by Korean Broadcasting System (KBS) announcers Lee Sang-hyeop and Lee Gak-gyeong, a sharing of families’ experiences of co-writing and growth, and the presentation of certificates from the superintendent of education.
Superintendent Chung said, “The books published this time are not merely finished products, but records of the time families have spent together and the communication they have built,” adding, “We will continue to expand reading and humanities education in which schools and families read and write together and grow.”
