On the 26th, according to the Kaizyu Data Research Institute, a total of 31,179 taxis were newly registered from January to September this year. SUVs accounted for 7,133 of them, up 1,044 from 6,089 during the same period last year. Their share of the total also rose by 2.5 percentage points to 22.9%.
By fuel type, LPG taxis fell from 23,421 (78.5%) from January to September last year to 22,951 (73.6%) this year, with their share declining by 4.9 percentage points. By contrast, electric and hybrid vehicles increased from 6,290 (21.1%) to 8,144 (26.1%).
In response to this trend, KGM is promoting the Torres and Actyon gasoline and hybrid models, along with the electrified Torres EVX, to taxi customers. The optional bi-fuel LPG system combines the performance of a gasoline engine with the economy of LPG.
Since the 20th, KGM has operated a rest area for taxi drivers at Experience Center Gangnam. Visitors can use the center’s LPG filling station and car wash in conjunction with the rest area, and visiting drivers can also take test drives and receive purchase consultations.
Benefits have also been introduced to ease the cost of purchasing a vehicle. Buyers of the New Torres, Torres EVX 2027 or Actyon 2027 by the end of October can receive benefits worth up to 1 million won. There is also a referral program that awards 400,000 KGM points when an existing taxi customer refers a colleague.
KGM is also providing vehicle maintenance support. If repairs are delayed, it offers points worth 100,000 won per day for up to seven days. The 200,000-won Slim Care package includes one round trip for vehicle pickup and delivery, an engine oil and air-conditioning filter change, and a complimentary inspection.
A KGM representative said, “We are focused on providing convenience and practical benefits that drivers can experience while using their vehicles,” adding, “We will continue to listen to customers based on our communication on the ground and strengthen the support they need.”
Meanwhile, KGM has continued its on-the-ground engagement, including by inviting Team Torres Taxi Club, a group of taxi drivers who drive the Torres EVX, for a line tour and a meeting in March last year.
