[Financial News] OpenAI has launched its first program to support Korean startups in developing artificial intelligence (AI) services. Among the 11 Korean startups that presented technologies and services using OpenAI’s AI models, Cutback took first place with technology that extracts 140 highlight clips of a particular player from 16 hours of soccer match footage.
OpenAI said on the 26th that it had held ‘OpenAI Model Masters’ for Korean startups at its Seoul office on the 23rd.
Model Masters is a program that helps startups apply AI technology to real-world products and services. OpenAI provided API credits to startups recommended by venture capital firms (VCs), supporting their technology development and experimentation. The participating companies demonstrated services they had developed using the credits and shared technical challenges they had encountered during development, along with how they had addressed them.
The event featured examples of AI applications across a range of industries, including business process automation, website development, commerce, real estate, biotech and video content production. Notably, numerous examples of OpenAI’s voice models being used in real-world services were presented, drawing particular interest.
Cutback, which took first place, is a company that develops ‘Selects,’ an AI solution for professional video editors. Using the video-understanding capabilities of OpenAI’s models, it analyzes scenes in videos and enables an AI editing agent to carry out necessary tasks automatically.
At the event, Cutback demonstrated technology that analyzed eight soccer match videos totaling 16 hours and extracted 140 highlight clips of a particular player. It also demonstrated a feature that uses three hours and 31 minutes of raw live-broadcast footage to produce five edited videos, along with short-form videos and thumbnails for each.
Cutback also received high marks for selecting the AI model best suited to each task. It compared the performance of multiple AI models using an evaluation dataset created by a professional editor, and considered factors such as cost and processing speed for each task, as well as output quality. The quality of its implementation in applying video-analysis technology to real editing work was also well received.
Han Yu-ha, an account director responsible for startups at OpenAI, said, “I hope the development experiences and lessons we shared this time will lead to product improvements and new business opportunities.”
