[Financial News] The Ottogi Ham Tae-ho Foundation supports outstanding researchers by presenting the Ottogi Ham Tae-ho Academic Award to promote academic research in food and nutrition. Industry sources said on the 26th that the foundation held the 34th Ottogi Ham Tae-ho Academic Award ceremony jointly with the Korean Nutrition Society on the 23rd at Seoul Dragon City in Yongsan-gu, Seoul.
At this year’s ceremony, Gachon University professor Lee Hae-jeong was selected for contributions to expanding the foundation for research into tailored health promotion for the public. Professor Lee received a plaque and a cash prize of 30 million won.
Professor Lee helped build national nutrition research infrastructure by leading efforts to establish the framework for the Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey and upgrade the nutrition survey database of the Korean Genome and Epidemiology Study. She also identified the effects of traditional foods and functional ingredients in human trials and clarified their mechanisms of action, increasing their potential for academic and industrial use.
Founded in 1996, the Ottogi Ham Tae-ho Foundation has continued to support research projects in addition to holding the academic award ceremony. The program began in 2013 with a total of 225 million won in support for three people and has provided a total of 14.1 billion won in research funding to 92 people through this year.
In 2009, the foundation established the Ottogi Ham Tae-ho Academic Award and has since presented it annually, together with the Korean Society of Food Science and Technology and the Korean Society of Food Science and Nutrition, to researchers who have contributed to the development of the food industry and improved dietary habits. Starting this year, the award program has expanded to include the Korean Nutrition Society, bringing in the three major academic societies in food and nutrition.
A representative of the Ottogi Ham Tae-ho Foundation said, “We are carrying out academic advancement initiatives to broaden the base of the food and nutrition fields and promote academic exchange and research activities,” adding, “We plan to continue our support for the development and competitiveness of the food and nutrition community.”
