[Financial News] Asiana Airlines has had a damages lawsuit filed in the United States, seeking an amount in the 2-trillion-won range, dismissed. The court ruled that the plaintiffs had failed to follow the prior approval procedures required to file the lawsuit.
According to the Financial Supervisory Service's DART electronic disclosure system on the 26th, Asiana Airlines disclosed that the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California had dismissed on the 22nd a damages lawsuit filed by Iana Rodionova and one other person.
The court dismissed the suit because the plaintiffs had not complied with the pre-filing approval procedures imposed on each of them individually. Accordingly, the judgment amount was set at 0 won. However, the decision was based on a procedural issue, and no substantive determination was made as to whether discriminatory treatment had occurred.
Asiana Airlines said it confirmed the dismissal through its legal counsel on the 23rd.
Meanwhile, the lawsuit was filed in March after the plaintiffs alleged that they had been subjected to discriminatory treatment while checking in to board an aircraft. The amount claimed, disclosed earlier on the 14th of this month, was approximately 2.3521 trillion won, equivalent to 228% of Asiana Airlines' equity capital. That amount was the claim against all co-defendants, and Asiana Airlines' individual share of the liability had not been specified.
