Kwangdong Pharmaceutical said on the 26th that its in-house AI unit, the AI Data Center, had been recognized as a company-affiliated research institute by KOITA.
The AI Data Center will oversee the establishment of regulatory response systems for each business division, the discovery of functional new materials, and the development of demand forecasting models. It will also pursue research into applying AI technologies to on-site operations, from new product development to production, logistics and distribution.
Kwangdong Pharmaceutical also runs AI Crew, a talent development program to strengthen employees’ ability to use AI in their work. The Quality Division of the company’s Production Headquarters won the top prize in the Gyeonggi Province preliminary round of this year’s National Quality Innovation Contest, then took bronze in the big data and AI category at the national finals.
The company is also pursuing the digital transformation of its work infrastructure. Kwangdong Pharmaceutical has adopted Google Workspace as its companywide collaboration tool and created an environment where employees can use the generative AI tool Gemini. It plans to transition its internal email, messenger and video conferencing systems in stages to improve collaboration efficiency.
“Recognition of the AI Data Center as a company-affiliated research institute is significant because it lays the institutional groundwork for incorporating AI-based data technologies across our pharmaceutical and food and beverage businesses,” said Lee Seung-jae, head of Kwangdong Pharmaceutical’s AI Data Center. “We will combine AI technology with employees’ ability to apply it in the field to build a sustainable digital innovation system.”
