The role of healthcare appliances is expanding beyond health management functions into areas that reflect interior design and personal taste. Ceragem is strengthening its design competitiveness and broadening its touchpoints with consumers by incorporating artwork into massage chairs.  According to industry sources on the 26th, Ceragem is holding “Art on Art, Rest,” an exhibition showcasing artworks created in collaboration with 10 Korean artists, at The Sharp Gallery in Jagok-dong, Gangnam-gu, Seoul, through November 1.
The exhibition is distinctive for reimagining the side covers of the “Pauze M8 Fit” massage chair as works of art. Taking inspiration from the fact that the product’s appearance can be changed by combining colors, patterns and materials, the designs reflect each artist’s individuality. The exhibition is an attempt to use massage chairs not merely as health management devices, but as interior design elements that help shape a living space.
The 10 participating artists are the nine who took part in the previous “Art on Art Relay” project—Gyu Hana, Kim Young-jin, Noh Iseo, Daum, Park No-eul, Bu Miel, Lee Jun, Jeong Mi-ra and Hong Su-young—as well as artist Seo Ho-seong, who presented “Pauze M8 Fit Art Edition: Secret Garden.”
They expressed, through their individual palettes and styles, the meaning of “rest” they found in nature and scenes from everyday life. Visitors can view the individual art covers alongside the massage chairs fitted with them. The display allows visitors to compare how the atmosphere of a space changes depending on the design applied to the same product. Representative works by the participating artists are also on display.
Ceragem is expanding its art collaborations, previously centered on online initiatives, into offline spaces. It has shared the artists’ creative processes and finished works through its official social media accounts, and previously offered the “Secret Garden” art edition, created in collaboration with Seo Ho-seong, as a limited-edition product. This exhibition differs in that it brings together the results of past collaborations in one place so consumers can see them for themselves.
This move is seen as a strategy to emphasize not only the functions of healthcare appliances but also their design and suitability for different spaces. Given the relatively large size of massage chairs, how naturally a product blends into a living space can also influence consumers’ choices.
Ceragem also operates an experience space combining residential interiors and healthcare appliances at “Runner’s House” inside The Sharp Gallery. It has placed the “Pauze M8 Fit Art Edition” in the living room, the “Celltron Circulation Chair” in the study, and the “Reflax Massage Sofa Bed” in the secondary room, among other products. The focus is on showing how consumers can use the products in real-life living spaces.
A Ceragem representative said, “This exhibition was designed to show how products used in everyday life are reborn as works of art and to let customers experience this firsthand,” adding, “We will continue to collaborate with a variety of artists to expand the design possibilities of Pauze.”
