[Financial News] The early-season pro basketball landscape in 2026-27 has been turned completely upside down. Seoul Samsung has raced to eight straight wins to open the season, tying the KBL record for the most consecutive wins to start a season.
Samsung routed Daegu Korea Gas Corporation 76-68 in an away game in the 2026-27 KCC Pro Basketball regular season at Daegu Gymnasium on the 25th. Since opening the season against Suwon kt, Samsung has put together a perfect run, with not a single loss in eight games.
Samsung has now matched the record of eight consecutive wins to open a pro basketball season, set by Wonju Dongbu (now DB Group) in 2011-12 and Goyang Orions in 2014-15. If it also wins its away game against Goyang Sono Skygunners on the 30th, Samsung will set a new record of nine straight wins to open the season—a feat never achieved since the KBL was founded—and simultaneously tie its own club record of nine consecutive wins, set in the 2008-09 season.

Samsung players celebrate after winning their game against Daegu Korea Gas Corporation at Daegu Indoor Gymnasium in Buk District, Daegu, on the afternoon of the 25th. With the win, Samsung extended its season-opening streak to eight games, breaking the club record for the most consecutive wins to start a season and tying the all-time pro basketball record alongside 2011-12 Wonju Dongbu (now DB Group) and 2014-15 Goyang Orions. The turning point came midway through the third quarter. With Samsung holding a narrow 43-41 lead, a steal by Chris McCullough led to a dunk, followed by back-to-back three-pointers from Han Ho-bin and Lee Gyu-tae, and Samsung quickly stretched its lead to 14 points.
In the fourth quarter, consecutive scores by Korea Gas Corporation’s Sam Joseph Belangel, Jeong Seong-woo and Kebe Aluma allowed the score to tighten to 60-64. But Lee Gyu-tae and Lee Geun-hwi hit crucial three-pointers to stop the momentum and seal the game.
Statistically, it was a game in which the inside game and outside shooting were perfectly balanced. Kerem Kanter dominated inside with 23 points and nine rebounds, while Han Ho-bin and Lee Gyu-tae chipped in 11 points apiece.
